The issue
I was reassessed and taken off the NDIS because they decided my disability was not permanent enough. I am living with mental health issues and need a wheelchair for mobility. Being removed from NDIS has significantly impacted my ability to live safely and independently at home.
This isn't just my story; it is the reality for countless Australians facing similar challenges. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), meant to provide essential support to individuals with disabilities, is becoming a source of stress and uncertainty with its ongoing reassessments. This is particularly devastating for individuals with permanent and lifelong disabilities.
According to recent statistics, over 4 million Australians live with a disability, and many rely on NDIS for their day-to-day support. The mental and physical toll of reapplying and proving their disability repeatedly is not only unnecessary but also harmful.
The purpose of the NDIS is to empower and assist those in need, ensuring they receive continuous support to lead a quality life. Constant reassessments challenge this aim, instead creating instability and fear among recipients. Additionally, it stretches resources thin, diverting attention from providing genuine help to repetitive paperwork and bureaucracy.
We are urging the NDIS to reevaluate its policy on assessments for individuals with lifelong and permanent disabilities. These individuals should not be burdened with constant evaluations to justify their need for assistance. Instead, they should focus on improving their quality of life with the support they need.
We propose implementing a streamlined process where those with certified permanent disabilities undergo fewer reassessments, thus prioritizing their well-being and allowing NDIS to allocate resources more effectively where they are most needed.
Please stand with us in this cause. Sign this petition to call on NDIS to make the necessary changes and truly support Australians with lifelong disabilities.
