Stop Congress From Giving Big Tech a Free Pass on AI Safety

The Issue

Artificial intelligence is advancing faster than our laws can keep up. And instead of strengthening public protections, Washington has been trying to limit what states can do.

In September 2025, OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman and his wife donated $25 million to a pro-Trump super PAC. Three months later, Trump signed an executive order directing the creation of a federal task force to challenge certain state AI regulations. The people developing some of the most powerful technology in human history are pouring millions into politics. We should be questioning whose interests our government is protecting.

AI isn’t just some fun little chatbot anymore. It can be used to create nonconsensual sexual images of real people, enable mass surveillance, and expand an industry of massive data centers consuming enormous amounts of electricity and water. And who’s dealing with the consequences? Ordinary people and working-class communities.

This is what happens when technological development is driven by private profit. The benefits are concentrated at the top, while the consequences are pushed onto everybody else.

States have already started establishing enforceable AI safety requirements. But Trump’s executive order directed federal officials to challenge certain state laws and called for federal legislation that could override them.

And Congress has rejected this kind of rollback before. In July 2025, the Senate voted 99 to 1 to remove a proposed ten-year restriction on state AI regulation.

Technological progress should not come at the expense of public safety.

That’s why I’m launching this petition demanding Congress reject legislation that blocks states from enforcing AI safety laws unless stronger federal protections are already in place. The technology of the future should serve the people, not the profit motives of the corporations that own it.

Sign my petition and demand Congress protect the public, not corporate power. I’m also putting together a list of lawmakers who have publicly supported AI safety legislation, with the goal of presenting this position directly to congressional offices working on these issues.
