The House has already passed a provision in the FY2027 National Defense Authorization Act, Section 219, and a similar version, Section 1217, is under consideration in the Senate, that would significantly expand and accelerate military technology cooperation between the United States and Israel.

Most Americans have never heard about it but those that have, overwhelmingly oppose it. 

The provision would direct the Pentagon to create a dedicated effort to coordinate U.S.–Israel defense technology cooperation. It calls for closer work, with less transparency, on military research and development, testing, technology integration, procurement, and cooperation between the American and Israeli defense industries.

It would also:

• Diminish the ability to hold Israel accountable to U.S./international law
• Direct the Pentagon to identify jointly developed or Israeli-origin technologies that could potentially be integrated into U.S. military systems.
• Open more subsidization of Israeli weapons manufacturers by U.S. taxpayers--without needing explicit congressional authorization and potentially appropriation of funds

Whatever your views on Israel, this level of military cooperation deserves an open public debate.

The United States should not deepen long-term military technology ties with another country simply because the policy is tucked inside a massive annual defense bill.

The current Israeli governemnt is:

• Executing a genocide, as defined by multiple international human rights groups, against the people of Palestine
• Was a driving force behind the current Iran War that has killed 18 US service members and cost American taxpayers an estimated $132 billion dollars
• Has been recognized by our own Pentagon as a "critical" intelligence threat to America.

Americans deserve to know what our government is committing to with the current government of Israel, how it affects U.S. military independence and national interests, and what safeguards and accountability will exist.

This is not about attacking Israelis or Jewish people. It is about demanding accountability from our own government and asking whether deeper military integration with any foreign country, especially the current government of Israel, serves the American public.

Congress still has the power to change this before the final bill is enacted.

We call on Congress to remove the U.S.–Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative from the FY2027 NDAA and reject equivalent language in the final bill.  We call on Congress, OUR representatives, to reject decisions that profit defense contractors and foreign countries and adhere to the wishes of their constituents. 

Military policy this consequential should be debated openly — not buried where most Americans will never see it.
