Led by plaintiffs in the early legal action, the door is open for aquarium fish collectors to resume applying to the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources for permits. Political maneuvering by the industry and the DLNR accepting scientifically inadequate environmental impact statement, has opened the door for collectors to resume application to acquire collection permits.
Led by the original plaintiffs blocking the trade, there is a move to block Hawaii's Department of Land and Natural Resources from approving aquarium collectors permits to renew the Hawaii aquarium fish export trade.
Evidence by divers and by our team personally has shown that reef fish populations are recovering (video and blog) to the joy of snorkelers and the health of the coral reef in Kona.
Check out the video on our YouTube channel showing the abundance of reef fish that have returned since the legal battle
