A state visit is a public honour, not neutral diplomacy. This one should not go ahead in these circumstances.

I am writing this petition because the planned state visit by King Charles & Queen Camilla to the United States does not represent me or the values I believe Britain upholds.

A state visit is not neutral diplomacy. It is a public honour, rich in symbolism, ceremony & endorsement. To proceed with that honour for Donald Trump at this moment is deeply wrong.

Trump has repeatedly insulted the UK, inflamed division, & shown contempt for democratic norms, truth & decency. Rolling out royal pageantry in these circumstances does not look principled or strategic. It looks complicit.

We will be told this visit is about easing tensions & maintaining relationships. But there is a difference between diplomacy & deference. Keeping channels open does not require public celebration, prestige & spectacle.

This visit is approaching quickly, which means opposition needs to be made visible before it is too late.
Many people may not even realise it has now been confirmed, particularly when so many atrocities & grave world events are rightly dominating public attention. But if people are unaware it is going ahead, then the true public response may never be seen.

Many of us do not support this visit going ahead in these circumstances. It sends the wrong message to the world, to the American public, & to people here in the UK, who do not want this done in their name.

This visit should be postponed. Britain must not confuse access with integrity, or ceremony with moral leadership.

This petition is open to anyone who opposes this decision — in the UK, the USA, or anywhere/everywhere else.
