It is important for history and helps us have a better understanding of ourselves, creating larger amounts of empathy along with many other benefits. Unfortunately, there has been an increasing trend of censorship and bans on books in schools, libraries, and other places where they should be accessible.

Books are essential tools for education, critical thinking, and personal growth. They offer diverse perspectives that help build empathy by allowing readers to experience lives different from their own. According to the American Library Association (ALA), there were 273 reported attempts to ban or restrict access to library materials in 2020 alone.

By banning books, we are depriving students of valuable learning opportunities. Literature opens minds, fosters creativity, encourages dialogue about difficult topics, and preserves cultural heritage.
