The Issue

India is a country with immense potential, brimming with talent and ambition. However, this potential is often stifled by the existing reservation system, which is primarily based on caste. As a citizen who cherishes the future of my nation, I believe it is imperative to address and reform the current reservation policy, which often leads to inequality and resentment among different communities.

The reservation system was initially instituted to remedy the historical injustices faced by certain castes. While well-intended, it has now metamorphosed into a tool that perpetuates division rather than fostering unity. This system often overlooks individuals who shine through their merit and performance, limiting their opportunities simply based on their caste background.

For our nation to truly thrive, it is crucial to adopt a more dynamic and equitable reservation system. Let’s transition to a model that prioritizes merit, performance, and consider the economically weaker sections across all communities. Such a system would not only reward hard work and talent, but also elevate individuals who genuinely need support, irrespective of their caste.

Consider these statistics: According to a recent report, less than 5% of reserved seats in premier educational institutions are filled by the economically backward, albeit talented, students. This is a glaring oversight that needs to be addressed. Moreover, the unemployment rate among educated individuals from higher castes has seen a significant increase, further highlighting the disparity created by caste-based reservations.

Education and employment should be based on an individual's ability, dedication, and economic status rather than their caste identity which they have no control over. Implementing a merit and economically-based reservation system will enhance competitiveness and ensure that opportunities are accessible to all deserving candidates, contributing to the socio-economic development of the entire nation.

A change in this system is not only just, but necessary for a prosperous and unified India. We urge policymakers to review and amend the caste-based reservation policy to reflect a truly egalitarian society. Sign this petition to make our voices heard and work towards a better future for our nation. Our progress depends on it.
