I've been speaking to more and more rescue groups and volunteers at the city shelter. I have learned much more about crisis of pit bull overpopulation in Indianapolis. https://rb.gy/pdgrj Apparently, the city shelter is currently not very aggressive in following up on citations for things like animal neglect and abuse. My thought is that my proposal would include a request for an additional 2 employees who's sole job duties would be to register and issue licenses to breeders and tenaciously pursue the citations for breeders and individuals who break the law.
The pit bull crisis is real. 1 in 4 dogs are euthanized at the shelter. It is mostly pit bulls who are euthanized because there are so many of them and they are difficult to place for adoption, for a variety of reasons. Thank you for signing the petition.
