Stop burning garbage in Padur

Stop burning garbage in Padur
The Issue
I am a resident of Padur, Tamil Nadu, and our community has been facing a major environmental hazard due to the continuous burning of garbage near Hindustan College. The noxious smoke not only pollutes our air but also poses serious health risks to the residents living in the numerous apartment complexes nearby. Families, including children and the elderly, are constantly exposed to the harmful fumes, endangering their health and quality of life.
The burning of waste releases numerous toxic pollutants into the atmosphere, including carbon monoxide, particulate matter, and hazardous gases that contribute to air pollution and respiratory problems. According to the World Health Organization, exposure to air pollutants increases the risk of chronic respiratory diseases, lung cancer, and complications such as asthma attacks. With Padur already battling typical urban pollution, the addition of garbage burning makes the situation unbearable and hazardous.
I urge the local authorities, including the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority and the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, to take immediate action against the open burning of waste. Concrete steps must be taken to manage and dispose of garbage responsibly without resorting to harmful practices. Implementing stricter regulations on waste disposal, setting up proper waste management systems, and ensuring regular monitoring of waste disposal activities can not only solve this current issue but prevent future occurrences.
By signing this petition, you will be joining the residents of Padur in their fight for clean air and a healthier environment for ourselves and future generations. Please add your signature and help us bring about positive change.
