Hello,
Since starting this petition, I’ve been having conversations with other parents and educators, both online and offline, about how image consent is managed in schools. It’s been really insightful to hear the different perspectives.
Some people have shared that “all or nothing” consent feels easier to manage and reduces the risk of mistakes. Others have highlighted the unintended impact this can have on children who may be excluded or singled out in everyday school activities. I’ve also heard from a parent whose child was excluded from things like graduation photos or yearbooks due to consent choices, which can be really disappointing and highlights how these policies can affect children in very visible ways.
What’s really stood out is how inconsistent this is across schools. Some are already using more flexible or tiered consent options, while others rely on bundled consent models.
It’s also become clear that this isn’t just about policy, but about how consent is supported in practice, including the systems schools use and how they manage risk.
At the centre of all of this is the child’s experience — feeling included, not singled out, and having their wellbeing considered alongside safety.
I’d also be really interested to hear others’ experiences with how consent is managed in your school, especially what’s working well or what challenges you’ve come across.
If this is something you feel strongly about, sharing the petition with others can help raise awareness and support meaningful change. Whether it’s a post, a story, or a video, every conversation helps.
