The Issue

Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s proposal to build on high-grade agricultural land adjacent to Links Road, opposite Beacon Park threatens the very fabric of our community. The relentless expansion of GYBC's mass housebuilding agenda into our precious green spaces is overwhelming our local infrastructure, and the impacts are felt daily by residents like us.

People in Bradwell, Gorleston, Hopton, Browston and nearby areas are already finding it incredibly difficult to secure appointments with doctors and dentists due to the stretched capacity. Norfolk County Council itself has acknowledged the  need for a new school in Bradwell amidst the rising population brought by mass housebuilding in our community.

The voice of reason comes even from within official quarters; Highways have already raised significant concerns regarding the site, and formal objections have been lodged by Norfolk & Waveney Integrated Care, highlighting the unsustainable demand this project will impose on James Paget Hospital and East of England Ambulance, the critical healthcare provider for our community.

GYBC propose a 70 bed care home on this site too, when just a mile up the road at Hopton you already have Riston Lodge Care Home, and Woodland Court Care Home just over the road at Beacom Park. This is completely unnecessary

The land they are targeting to develop is part of our heritage and natural landscape that we should preserve for future generations. The balance between developing new homes and retaining essential agricultural land must be maintained, ensuring any future developments are sustainable for all residents and do not compromise our community’s well-being.

Our plea is for the Great Yarmouth Borough Council to halt this development proposal. Instead, we urge them to seek alternative brownfield sites that won’t jeopardises local services and will consider the burgeoning needs of our community with a thoughtful and sustainable approach.

Great Yarmouth First and Rupert Lowe MP will continue to push for sensible levels of housebuilding in the right places under an INFRASTRUCTURE FIRST approach.

Now’s the time to make your voice heard. Stand with us in preserving the integrity of our community and safeguarding our essential services. Sign this petition and urge Great Yarmouth Borough Council to reconsider their plans and protect our precious agricultural land.
