The Issue

Growing up, the Verona music program shaped me into the person I am today. Since the fourth grade, it has been an essential part of my life, offering me opportunities to grow, learn, and thrive through music. It is heartbreaking to think that future students may not experience these same life-changing opportunities if budget cuts continue to threaten the program.

The Verona music program has been a beacon of artistic excellence and a critical component of our community's educational curriculum. Music education fosters creativity, discipline, and teamwork, while providing students with emotional and intellectual outlets. It is proven that participation in music programs boosts academic performance, enhances cognitive abilities, and builds confidence.

The proposed budget cuts not only risk dismantling this beloved program but also endanger the personal development of so many students who would benefit from it. According to studies by the National Association for Music Education, students involved in music education score higher on standardized tests and display improved social skills. The loss of the Verona music program would have far-reaching consequences for our community, affecting students, educators, and families alike.

Instead of reducing funding, we should be looking for ways to bolster and expand the program. Possible solutions can include fundraising efforts involving local businesses and alumni donations, as well as exploring grants specifically aimed at supporting arts education. Engaging with community and regional arts councils could also open doors to new resources and partnerships, securing the program's future.

We urge the Verona School Board and local government officials to reconsider these harmful budget cuts. By investing in the arts, we are investing in our students' futures, their success, and the cultural richness of our community. Let us stand together to ensure the Verona music program continues to inspire and nurture generations to come.

Please join me in signing this petition to protect and preserve the Verona music program for the coming school year and beyond. Your support can make all the difference for our community's young musicians.
