STOP Brackenbury Clean Air Neighbourhood
STOP Brackenbury Clean Air Neighbourhood
The Issue
Everyone in Brackenbury will be affected by the Council's proposed Clean Air Neighbourhood and its cameras - a Low Traffic Neighbourhood. The aim is to reduce through traffic and clean the air by pushing vehicles to main roads. If you live in Hammersmith and Fulham borough you can drive free of charge. Sounds good?
Vehicles registered outside the borough will pick up a punitive fine if they pass a camera in Brackenbury. Try to avoid this by dodging through the maze and you may still be forced back to congested Paddenswick, Glenthorne, Goldhawk or Shepherds Bush Roads. To avoid a fine, a vehicle has to return the way it came in - that's right, it has to backtrack.
As a resident you can register a visitor but the first H&F scheme east of Wandsworth Bridge Rd scooped in £9.5mill of fines in the first year. Now fines for south Fulham zones total nearly £20mill.
Those cameras are difficult to avoid and they operate 24/7 every day of the year. A lot of fines for a lot of people.
If this makes it obstructive for residents to book a mini-cab, boiler repair, food delivery, builder or for family or friends to visit, spare a thought for our local businesses - their customers, employees and suppliers. Over 40 businesses in Brackenbury have signed up to oppose the scheme. At a time of economic stress let's encourage - not make obstacles for our shops, pubs, restaurants and service businesses to thrive. Residents need them as much as they need us.
April: The Leader of Hammersmith and Fulham states that if the consensus is against the scheme the Council will not proceed. May: LBHF Leader says he doesn't think a camera scheme is right for Brackenbury. May: Better Brackenbury Working Party announces it has abandoned proposals for the Clean Air Neighbourhood scheme. June: Although not specifically stated, LBHF's Leader indicates that the proposed Clean Air Neighbourhood for Brackenbury will not go ahead (see Update, below).
Sign STOP Brackenbury Clean Air Neighbourhood and let the Council know we don't need it!
