The Issue

As an avid book lover, I look forward to each new release with great anticipation. However, my excitement often turns to disappointment when I miss out on purchasing a popular book at its retail price due to limited availability. What adds to my frustration is seeing these same books pop up on platforms like Vinted, being sold for more than triple their original value.

This exploitative practice not only affects book enthusiasts like myself but also undermines the accessibility and enjoyment of literature. The joy of reading should be available to everyone, not just to those who can afford exorbitant prices set by resellers.

Vinted, a platform originally intended for peer-to-peer sales, has inadvertently become a hotspot for opportunistic sellers who exploit book shortages to make excessive profits.

Moreover, reselling books at inflated prices contradicts the core values of book sharing and accessibility. This is why we need Vinted to implement concrete measures to curb this issue. These measures could include setting price ceilings on resold items, particularly books, or flagging and reviewing accounts that list books at explicitly inflated prices.

By introducing fair pricing policies and monitoring for price gouging, Vinted can help uphold the principle of keeping books affordable and accessible, preserving the very spirit of shared enjoyment and knowledge.

Together, we can make a difference in curbing this predatory practice and ensure that books remain accessible to everyone who shares a love for reading. Please join me in asking Vinted to act responsibly and implement boundaries for the reselling of books at inflated prices. Sign this petition today and help restore fairness and integrity to the book marketplace.
