Stop book banning

Stop book banning
The Issue
People of the United States, it has become an issue that books essential to our learning are being unjustly banned. Book bans have been steadily on the rise in the U.S. since 2020, increasing about 33% per year. These book bans have been mostly targeted at young adult and children's books. These bans are happening everywhere, but mostly in certain states like Florida, Texas, Utah, and Ohio. Many of these books have been banned because of prejudice towards controversial topics and hate for certain groups. In fact, an estimated 41% of banned books are banned for having LGBTQ+ characters, and 40% have a person of color as the main character. Book bans have increased so much that some states are making it illegal to ban books. These states include Minnesota, Washington, and Maryland. It is very important that other states make similar changes to stop book banning because many of this nation's school systems are keeping children from reading essential books that have controversial topics. We need to stop all of these books from being banned.
