The Issue

Water. Your Wildlife. Your Economy. Your Future.

The Indian River Lagoon is already fighting for its life. Decades of nutrient pollution, algae blooms, seagrass collapse, habitat loss, and record manatee deaths have pushed this fragile ecosystem to the edge.

Now, it faces a NEW threat — and it’s one we cannot ignore.

Blue Origin has applied for a permit from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to dump up to 500,000 gallons of industrial wastewater per day into a stormwater system that drains toward the Indian River Lagoon.

This comes at a time when the Lagoon is already suffering from the near-daily impacts of rocket launches, including:

🚀 shockwaves & acoustic pressure affecting marine life

    🚀 fallout/particulate entering waterways

🚀  heavy metals & chemical residues accumulating in sediment

🚀 seagrass and fish nurseries disrupted by vibrations & turbidity

Adding half a million gallons a day of industrial wastewater is not just another impact — it’s a breaking point.

✔️The Indian River Lagoon supports:

✔️Thousands of fishing jobs

✔️Charter captains & eco-tour companies

✔️Tourism dollars for every restaurant, retail shop, and attraction

✔️Waterfront homeowners

✔️Property values across Brevard County

✔️The entire coastal economy

If the Lagoon collapses, so do the businesses and families who depend on it. This isn’t political. This isn’t dramatic. This is reality.

Our homes, our wildlife, our water, our economy, and our future depend on a healthy Lagoon. We are calling on FDEP to:

1. Deny the permit as proposed, OR

2. Require zero discharge into the Indian River Lagoon,

3. Require strict and enforceable limits,

4. Mandate independent, third-party water quality monitoring,

5. Provide full public transparency of all data, and

6. Hold a public meeting so the community can be heard.

The Indian River Lagoon belongs to ALL of us — not corporations, not private interests, not polluters.   Protect the water that protects our community.   Protect the jobs that depend on a living Lagoon.   Protect the future you want for your family. Please sign and share this petition today.
