Politics should serve everyone — but right now, it’s only serving the rich and powerful. 

This weekend’s mammoth donations to Reform UK are the latest obscene example. In just 24 hours, two men donated £72 million — more than the total that all political parties received last year. 

What do they want in return? 

When big billionaires can donate mammoth figures and buy influence, the voices of ordinary people are drowned out. Meanwhile, voters are struggling with the cost of living and NHS waiting lists, our voices unheard. This isn’t right or fair.

We need a political system that works for all of us, not just those at the top. These donations break all historical records, and until immediate action is taken, there’s no telling where this will end. Politicians are selling influence and the mega-rich are buying it. 

In June, Andy Burnham said he supported a cap on political donations to stop the "undue influence" of big money. He urgently needs to keep his promise.
