Stop automatic denial of Amazon SAFE-T claims & introduce mandatory Return verification
The Issue
My small business is facing a critical challenge due to the automatic denial of genuine Amazon SAFE-T claims, a system meant to protect honest sellers from fraudulent returns. Recently, out of five customer returns, two came back with items that weren’t ours, an occurrence that’s becoming alarmingly frequent for many legitimate sellers like me. In one instance, a completely different item was returned instead of the product we shipped. We documented this with photographs, an unboxing video, and CCTV footage showing the package being received and opened. Despite presenting this evidence, our SAFE-T claims were automatically denied.
Amazon, a giant in the global marketplace, is trusted by Lakhs of sellers in India to provide a fair and secure platform. As sellers, we invest not just capital but also our dreams and livelihoods into building businesses that create jobs and contribute to the economy. Yet, when faced with fraudulent returns, such as receiving empty boxes or incorrect items, the protection from Amazon seems to fall short.
Statistics show that nearly 20% of online returns are dishonest, according to a report by the National Retail Federation. This is not just a hiccup; it’s a looming crisis, especially for businesses like mine dealing in high-value products, where each instance of fraud incurs significant financial losses.
We, the sellers of Amazon India, need more robust support and accurate review mechanisms to safeguard our business interests. The automatic denial of legitimate SAFE-T claims without thorough investigation is not doing justice to the trust we place in Amazon's marketplace. Amazon India leadership must prioritize the examination of disputed claims with verified evidence, and swiftly implement a system that requires all returns to be checked against initial sender data and verified with substantial proof, such as detailed photos or videos.
This petition calls upon Amazon India to stop the automated denial of genuine SAFE-T claims, ensure that every claim involving fraudulent returns is processed accurately and manually reviewed, and enforce fair practices that guard against any deceitful activity. This would not only benefit sellers but also fortify Amazon’s credibility as a marketplace that stands by its values.
Support this essential change to protect honest business owners like myself from undue losses, fortify business trust in the platform, and create a better ecosystem for all stakeholders involved. Please sign and share this petition to urge Amazon India to take immediate action.
Our petition is not asking Amazon to approve every SAFE-T claim.
We are requesting Amazon to introduce mandatory return verification during pickup similar to Myntra so the pickup associate checks whether the returned item matches the original product before accepting it. This simple change can prevent fraudulent returns, reduce seller losses, and improve trust in the marketplace. (This should be Mandatory for Pickup associate to verify the product)
If you believe Amazon should implement this policy to protect honest sellers, please sign and share the petition.
