Stop Auto Insurance Companies from Redirecting Patients to Loblaws owned Rehab

The Issue

Empty Independent Rehabilitation Clinic

As a clinic owner, I am witnessing an alarming trend that is not only affecting my practice but also the quality of care that patients receive. Insurance companies, such as Intact Insurance, are redirecting patients away from independent physiotherapy clinics following car accidents. Instead of allowing these individuals to continue treatment with their trusted healthcare providers, they are being sent to corporate chains owned by companies like Loblaws owned Lifemark Health Group under the guise of their Preferred Provider Rehabilitation program.

This practice undermines the trust and relationship built between patients and their family doctors who initially referred them to us. It also disrupts continuity in patient care which is crucial for recovery after traumatic events like car accidents. Moreover, it puts undue pressure on patients who are already dealing with physical pain and emotional stress post-accident.

The auto insurance industry's preference for large corporate chains over independent clinics threatens the survival of small businesses like ours that provide personalized care tailored to individual needs. This trend is not just about business; it's about patient choice and quality healthcare.  Patients often don't realize that in such situations the interests of the auto insurance companies may outweigh their own rehabilitation interests.

We urge lawmakers and regulators to intervene in this matter urgently. We need policies that protect patient rights - including their right to choose where they receive treatment - against manipulative practices by insurance companies.

Please sign this petition if you believe in fair access to healthcare services for all citizens regardless of who their insurance provider is or what business interests may be at play behind closed doors. Your signature can make a difference!
