The Issue

At present, we are in an unprecedented housing shortage and homeless crisis here in Ireland. The figures are rising daily with many people struggling to make ends meet. Our current government, and our opposition parties, rather than tackle these problems, continue to engage in political mudslinging in the Dáil, while allowing unvetted and undocumented migrants to enter our country freely, providing them with free food, water, and housing through IPAS centers.

This situation is disproportionately affecting the residents of Tallaght, Dublin 24. IPAS centers are diverting resources and attention away from the pressing needs of our community. By establishing or converting buildings for asylum or IPAS facilities in Tallaght, the government is ignoring the voices and necessities of the local populace who are facing their own housing challenges.

The numbers are stark. As of recent reports, over 16,000 people are homeless in Ireland, with thousands more on the brink of losing their homes due to the high cost of living and inadequate housing supply. This is not just a statistic; it is a reality for many families and individuals in our community who are living in precarious conditions, facing the fear of eviction and uncertainty every day.

We cannot allow this situation to worsen by diverting potential local housing solutions towards accommodating asylum seekers at the expense of our residents. It is crucial that resources and policy efforts at this time are directed towards resolving the housing crisis and supporting Irish citizens who are struggling every day.

Our demand is simple: halt all plans to build, convert, or operate any asylum or IPAS centers in Tallaght. Our community deserves more comprehensive solutions that prioritize the needs of its own people first. We urge the government to refocus their efforts on tackling the housing crisis head-on and ensuring that the infrastructure and support mechanisms are in place for those in dire need within our own boundaries.

By signing this petition, you are standing up for Tallaght, demanding that the interests and needs of the local community are prioritized in governmental policy decisions. Join us in making our voices heard in defense of our home and community's future.
