Stop Asthma prescription costs

The Issue

Hi I'm laura.

I was diagnosed with asthma in my early 30's this was a huge shock to me as I'd lost my mother to an asthma attack in 1999. She was 35 when she died. Being diagnosed with asthma I thought the same thing would happen to me as it did my mam. Her name was Tracy Webster.

My dad remarried years later to Julie Devenport. She also had an asthma attack this year in march leading to her ending up in the ICU and sadly passing away just after her birthday.

With the cost of living rising rapidly people with asthma are choosing to either buy there medications or food/mortgage/bills.

I have found myself in that predicament. Since December 2023 I have had to use my medications sparingly. In constant fear of running out and not being able to buy more and in fear of having an asthma attack. Now that summer is almost upon us I now have a new fear... Pollen. Pollen triggers some asthmatics if not all. There are many different triggers for each individual. Pollen is mine.

Prescriptions for asthmatics should be made free to those who have asthma. Diabetics get they're medications free because they need them daily. Asthmatics have and asthma plan which will vary from person to person YET they need there medications daily to live and breathe. People do not need to pay to breathe who don't have asthma. Why should asthmatics have to pay to get medications to help them breathe? Prescription costs for asthmatics should be abolished. Noone should live in fear of there condition and not wonder if they're going to be able to afford there medications from month to month.

I am currently under the respiratory clinic in Darlington memorial hospital which they are keeping a close eye on my asthma. The nurses are fabulous there and they help ease worries and fears that I or anyone else has. I want to thank them for helping me throughout the years.

Please help me gain signatures so that this will get heard in parliament and hopefully help asthmatics afford or even better get they're medications for free like diabetics do. As we need our medications daily too.
