Home is home; school is school. This statement perfectly encapsulates the essence of my plea for a world where children's evenings and weekends are free from the burden of homework. This seemingly innocent after-school activity has transformed into a significant source of stress not only for children but for their families as well.

In today’s fast-paced world, the mental health and well-being of our children should be our utmost priority. According to the National PTA and the National Education Association, students in North America are recommended to have no more than ten minutes of homework per grade level. However, studies have shown that students often receive significantly more, leading to increased stress, anxiety, and burnout. A Stanford study from 2014 revealed that 56% of the surveyed students considered homework a primary source of stress.

The adverse effects extend beyond the students themselves. Families find their evenings consumed with completing assignments, leaving little room for meaningful family interactions, recreational activities, or simply relaxing. The emphasis on homework blurs the line between school and personal life, leaving children with less time for hobbies, sports, and essential rest.

Moreover, the disparity in resources between students means that homework can exacerbate inequalities. Not all students have access to conducive learning environments at home or adequate help from family members. By reducing or eliminating homework, we can create a more equal and supportive learning environment for all students.

Schools should instead focus on maximizing learning during school hours. Implementing more interactive and engaging methods in class can ensure that students grasp the necessary concepts and skills without the need for excessive at-home work.

I urge educators, policymakers, and school administrators to consider these points and work towards a change that prioritises the health and happiness of our children. Let's reinvent education to be more inclusive, balanced, and fair for every child. Please sign this petition to encourage schools worldwide to reconsider and ultimately abolish the practice of assigning homework.

They are required to do several minutes of reading each day, along side hobbies & clubs, football, scouts, family events ect. Aswell as several subjects of homework. When you have multiple children it puts not only pressure on them!  But as a family as a whole!!
