STOP APS’ Planned "ABOVE GROUND" HIGH VOLTAGE LINES in to Sedona's VOC

STOP APS’ Planned "ABOVE GROUND" HIGH VOLTAGE LINES in to Sedona's VOC
The Issue
We've seen firsthand the destruction that comes with climate change. Sedona has become a sanctuary for many. Today, this sanctuary is facing a looming threat. Arizona Public Service (APS) is planning to install a high-voltage transmission line thru Coconino National Forest to the Village of Oak Creek (VOC), using 65-foot poles that rise ostentatiously above ground. Originally APS planned on having the entire 13.5-mile line above ground but since then has modified the plans to have ~80% of it buried & ~20% is STILL to be above ground running into Sedona's VOC.
This plan has been met with well-deserved opposition from residents, businesses, and various groups. In letters to the National Forest Service (NFS), many have vehemently argued that the plan presents a rampant wildfire risk, egregiously violates the Sedona All American Road Scenic Route's integrity, loss of property value and may lead to increased insurance premiums or, worse, loss of coverage are just some of the many concerns. It's a glaring disregard of the residents' concern. Many moved to Sedona to bask in its tranquility and serenity, not to live underneath looming towers that serve as potential wildfire starters. APS needs to consider sustainable and mindful alternatives that align with the protection of this beautiful town, its residents, and its natural treasures which the VOC Big Park Council has provided. This is a call to halt the transmission line project and to re-evaluate alternative plans to have the ENTIRE 69kV line buried. This is your chance to help preserve our shared sanctuary and save Sedona.
Please SIGN THIS PETITION and let APS know that our opposition is not only strong – it is determined and has a voice.
PS. To make matters worse, if AZ House Bill 2201 is passed, it will be very difficult to hold APS responsible for a Wildfire they or their equipment caused, since they will be permitted to write, approve, and implement their own wildfire mitigation plan. Their own plan will determine if their negligent behavior caused a fire.
