Stop Any Invitation to Reza Pahlavi — He Does Not Represent Iranians or Our Community

Petition Text: Reza Pahlavi (also known as “ex‑Prince” Reza Pahlavi) does not represent the Iranian people, the Iranian‑Australian community, or any democratic institution. He holds no elected position and has no mandate to speak on behalf of Iranians.

Inviting him to Australia would misrepresent our community, inflame tensions within the Iranian‑Australian diaspora, and create unnecessary division. Our community includes monarchists, republicans, reformists, leftists, ethnic minorities and secular and religious groups, and refugees who fled the Pahlavi monarchy. No single exile figure speaks for all of us.

Human‑rights organisations have documented serious abuses under the Pahlavi monarchy, including political repression and torture. Reza Pahlavi continues to position himself as a hereditary claimant and has defended aspects of the former regime. Hosting him would contradict Australia’s commitment to democratic legitimacy and human‑rights principles.

His visit would also be interpreted internationally as political endorsement, undermining Australia’s neutral and principled foreign‑policy stance.

We call on the Australian Government to reject any proposal to invite Reza Pahlavi to Australia and to engage instead with diverse, community‑representative Iranian‑Australian voices.
