On Monday, November 4th, at 7 PM in the Kalispell City Council Chambers, the City Council will vote on the 355-lot Tronstad Meadows/Whitetail Crossing subdivision. This proposal would rezone 110.5 acres to R-2 with a PUD—just a slight reduction of 25 lots from the previously rejected R-3 plan. This is our last chance to ensure that our community’s safety and infrastructure needs are addressed before this large-scale development goes before a vote and possibly moves forward.
The Risks:
Unsafe Road Conditions: The sole access point for this development will be via an unimproved county road with blind hills, steep ditches, and dangerous intersections. This road is not equipped to handle the increased traffic from 355 new homes.
Traffic Failures: The intersections at Hwy 93, Whitefish Stage, and Rose Crossing will be severely impacted by the development, with increased risks for accidents. Without a traffic signal at Hwy 93/Tronstad, this area will see Level of Service (LOS) deteriorate to an "F"—the worst rating for road functionality.
Inadequate Planning: Vague promises won’t ensure safety. Kalispell’s growth must be safe, strategic, and sustainable. We cannot allow hasty development without the necessary infrastructure in place.
