Hello everyone. Thank you for your support earlier this year. So much has happened since then, of course. I hope you are all staying safe and well during this time of upheaval. I wanted to let you all know that just before COVID-19 took its toll on Qantas, the company announced it would implement additional precautions to help reduce the risk of carrying some breeds of snub-nosed animals including boxers, bulldogs and pugs. The airline has consulted with the RSPCA, International Pet and Animal Transport Association and Australian Veterinary Association to develop the new measures. In the future, bookings can be made for snub-nosed dogs and cats on selected domestic routes, subject to a number of conditions. Existing procedures will be enforced, limiting the time of travel to early mornings and late evenings when outside temperatures are lowest. Snub-nosed breeds may not be accepted for travel if temperatures are likely to exceed 20 degrees Celsius throughout their journey. Qantas has also revised its pet handling procedures and introduced further training for teams to help identify signs of stress or other animal behaviour which may impact fitness to fly. RSPCA Australia’s Chief Executive Officer Richard Mussell welcomed the new policy. This is what we were asking for. I feel good about the outcomes announced by Qantas. I think they go a long way towards protecting pets travelling in the future. There are always things that can be improved upon but I'm really comforted knowing that Qantas has gone to so much effort to get this right. To me, this means Duke's life meant something and he didn’t die in vain. None of these changes would have happened had I not had 82,500 of you standing with me. Your support means so much, thank you. Kay
