Stop Animal Cruelty on Facebook Channels: So Funny Dollar Happy, Happy Monkey Marima

The issue

Each day we are witnessing appalling treatment of animals that is allowed to go unchecked on the Facebook channels: So Funny Dollar Happy, Happy Monkey Marima, Happy Monkey SUSU and among others. As a dedicated group of animal lovers and advocates, we can no longer stomach the continual exploitation and cruelty being inflicted on helpless creatures. The distress we feel seeing these animals suffer is hard to bear, made worse by the lack of action from Facebook despite repeated reports.

It is unsettling that platforms, such as Facebook are being used to showcase animal abuse, thus encouraging a culture of cruelty and desensitisation towards such heinous acts. These platforms have the power and resources to effectively filter and block such content, yet they continue to let animal abusers use them. This not only encourages these acts of cruelty but also promotes a disturbing normalisation of violence.

Moreover, the fact that Cambodia, where these channels are based, presently has no official animal welfare laws to safeguard these vulnerable creatures from human cruelty, makes the situation even graver (World Animal Protection). It is evident that these animals are in desperate need of strong advocates who will fight for their rights.

We all share the belief that every life is precious, and it is high time that Facebook revisited its community standards and polices, to ensure that they fortify the protection of animals from abuse. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that the essence of compassion, care, and respect for all life forms transcends all platforms, digital and otherwise.

Let us raise our voice jointly to demand Facebook to step up its efforts, to enforce stricter rules and take a stringent stance against these abhorrent videos and those who propagate them and to cooperate fully with authorities in cases where abuse is displayed. We also call upon the Cambodian Government to enact rigorous animal welfare laws and crackdown on animal poaching, particularly monkeys.

Please, show your support by signing this petition. Contribute to ending the suffering of these innocent beings by demanding accountability from those who can enforce massive change. Thank you very much.
