Members of Citizens for Smart Growth - Peoria, AZ have been working hard on keeping Amkor out of Vistancia. We have come to the point where we truly need every members help.
Firstly, we need people to show up and write emails to the council. Yes, they will most likely not respond, but we must let them know that we will not stand for this. We need people to show up to the next council meeting on Tuesday May 13th at 6:00pm. Even if you don't speak, we need people there in support of our efforts - it does make an impact! The attorney specifically mentioned that we need more people turning out.
Secondly, we need to raise funds to prepare for litigation. We recently sat down with our attorney's as to the next steps in the process. We will need to wait for the city to approve the site plan, and once that is done, we can file for a temporary injunction - which then would be followed by a hearing for hopefully a longer injunction. Once the city has the plan approved, we will need to move quickly to file our complaint. For the litigation process, which could include a possible bond, we are anticipating that it will cost anywhere between $50,000 - $150,000. It all depends on how long Amkor and the City drag this out in court. Another thing about this litigation, if successful, we can hopefully force the city to have to go through the normal planning and zoning process (hearings) for all of the PIC and Peoria Gateway.
We had a gracious neighbor offer matching funds up to $5000 for anything raised April 21 - May 15. We have currently raised $4,220 during this period! We have 5 days left, please contribute by going to citizensforsmartgrowthpeoriaaz.com, or zelle funds to smartgrowthpeoriaaz@gmail.com. You can also drop off a check at a Chase Bank using Citizens for Smart Growth - 2575. Also, we will be having a fundraiser at Haymaker - North Peoria on Monday May 12 from 4-8pm. Show the flyer while ordering (dine in only) and 10% of the proceeds will go to Citizens for Smart Growth - Peoria, AZ.
Lastly, we are planning on filing a complaint with the AZ Attorney General in regard to improper donation of the land to Amkor. Mike Kelleher has started a petition for our members to sign opposing the gifting of the land. We are looking for AT LEAST 500 signatures. You can access the petition here: https://chng.it/HXQFMrygyv
The rubber is meeting the road, and we really need everyone to please participate to help keep Amkor out of Vistancia! Thank you to @everyone!
