The issue

In a world increasingly dominated by giant tech corporations, small businesses, which form the backbone of our global economy, are being crushed under the weight of automated decisions. I am speaking out not just for myself, but for countless others whose livelihoods are being threatened or extinguished by Google's opaque algorithms and their unilateral decisions.

My own clients, my family, and countless other small businesses have become collateral damage in Google's quest for absolute control over digital advertising and search engine visibility. It's a modern-day tyranny perpetrated by a faceless algorithm that decides the fate of hardworking individuals without any recourse or due process.

Consider the emerging stories of entrepreneurs like Sarah, whose thriving boutique was suddenly invisible online, or Alex, whose local bookstore was replaced in search results by larger chains, leading to a sharp decline in foot traffic and sales. Like them, many small business owners are witnessing their hard work disappear overnight, and their dreams crumble, not because of poor service or inferior products, but due to the whims of a system that operates without transparency.

The business community asks why, without warning or explanation, their digital presence is stripped away by a company responsible for 87% of internet searches globally. Our path to survival is governed by rules we cannot see, understand, or influence. Small businesses deserve better – they deserve fairness, transparency, and the opportunity to succeed without the looming fear of invisibility.

We demand that Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google LLC, and the respective authorities like the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in the USA, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC), and the European Commission's Directorate-General for Competition, investigate these practices and hold Google accountable.

We call for a reform of Google's policies to ensure that decisions related to search visibility and digital advertising include transparent processes and provide affected businesses with a platform to dispute unfair actions. This includes implementing clear guidelines, offering explanations for downgrades or bans, and establishing an appeals process where businesses can have their voices heard.

This petition is personal and urgent because every day, another small business quietly vanishes from the digital landscape. It is time to take a stand and fight for fairness in a realm currently ruled by algorithms. By signing this petition, you are joining a collective effort to restore balance and fairness to our digital world. Your support can make a difference for countless small businesses fighting for survival.
