Stop AI job application processes

Stop AI job application processes
The Issue
I'm reaching out to all of you because we need to change the way job applications are done today. I'm sure many of you have felt the frustration that I have experienced. You see, the current AI-driven job application process doesn't allow younger candidates, like myself and my peers, to truly showcase our abilities. It's impersonal and can be very discouraging.
When I recently tried to get my first job, I spent countless hours crafting my resume and cover letter, only to receive automated messages telling me I wasn't a fit. It was disappointing to say the least, especially when I know my passion, ambition, and willingness to learn far outweigh the impersonal metrics these AI programs use.
According to a study by Harvard Business Review, many qualified candidates are often overlooked because the AI systems filter them out based on keywords and algorithms that don't capture the intangibles of a great employee: creativity, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence. In fact, a study showcased that up to 75% of applications are screened out before a human even sees them! That’s a disservice to dedicated applicants who may be newer to the job market.
Moreover, AI does not recognize potential when it sees it; it merely checks boxes. We need to bring back a human touch to job applications, allowing recruiters to see the whole person and not just what's written on paper. Personalized and open-ended processes encourage new talent by focusing on diverse skills and real-world potential.
I propose that companies adopt a more holistic recruitment strategy that involves initial human reviews or a combination of AI and human oversight to ensure that potential candidates aren't unfairly dismissed. By doing so, we can provide equal opportunities to all applicants, especially younger generations who are trying to enter the workforce for the first time.
Please join me in petitioning companies to phase out purely AI-based job applications in favor of more inclusive practices. This change could mean a world of difference to many young job seekers who are eager to contribute and make a positive impact. Let's pave the way for a fairer, more personal application process for everyone.
