The Issue

Living in Breckinridge County, Kentucky, we revel in our rural, agricultural lifestyle which heavily relies on our natural resources. Our community uses groundwater extensively, both for our farming operations and as a primary water source for many residents. It's a lifestyle and tradition we're proud of, rooted in our respect for nature and a simpler way of life.

However, the proposed establishment of AI data centers in our region threatens to disrupt this balance. One of our main concerns is the heavy water consumption these data centers demand. Reports suggest that AI data centers can use millions of gallons of water per day to keep their systems cool. For a county like ours, which is dependent on groundwater not only for drinking but also for sustaining our agricultural heritage, this could lead to a severe depletion of our water resources. The repercussions would be felt acutely by farmers, families, and the environment alike.

Not only water scarcity looms as a threat, but also the strain on our small power grid. AI data centers are notorious for their massive energy consumption. With most of our power grid designed to support agricultural and residential needs, the addition of a high-energy-consuming facility could lead to increased energy costs and possible power outages. The community would bear the brunt of these infrastructural strains, potentially disrupting livelihoods and daily life.

Furthermore, the intrusion of such a large technological infrastructure does not align with our community values and needs. We pride ourselves on being a close-knit community that values the integrity of our environment and our agricultural roots. Introducing an AI data center could irrevocably change the landscape and character of our county.

It's vital to defend our community from these potentially damaging changes. Our county is a sanctuary of nature and agriculture, and we wish to keep it that way. We call on local government officials and developers to reconsider their plans in light of the environmental and social impact an AI data center could impose on Breckinridge County.

We implore everyone who shares our concerns and values to support this cause. Please join us in preserving the water, energy, and natural beauty of Breckinridge County by signing this petition.

Christie ComptonPetition StarterI am an at home breeder. That takes greT time and commitment in making sure my animals are cared for and high standard. I make sure that my animals all have proper vaccines and vet care. I find the ban to be very unfair for small at home breeders.
