In NSW the wait time for adoptees to receive their paperwork has blown out from 8 months to approximately 2 years from the time their application is received. Can you imagine having to wait this amount of time to find out the name of your birth mother?  Knowing where you came from isn’t a privilege, it’s a right! The sad part of all this is that some adoptees are going to pass away while waiting. Others will give up because the wait time is just one more hoop they have to jump through on what is often already a difficult journey. Once their paperwork is received they then have another wait plus the expense of purchasing necessary certificates which should be made available to them for free.
