Hello all,

There is huge overlap between our Save the Festival Plaza cause and that of the Adelaide Park Land Association's  'Stop The Chop' campaign., heightened by the fact that Festival Plaza is gazetted Park Lands. Both causes are caused by huge governmental over-reach and mindlessness.

We urge you to attend the  next Adelaide Park Lands STOP THE CHOP rally this FRIDAY THE 22ND MAY AT 5.30pm on the Parliament House steps.

The last rally was hugely successful and it very much in all our interests that this one is too, and we hope even bigger, better and noisier. If you can bring a brass instrument all the better!

Re Festival Plaza, we are doubling down on the fact of the ATO becoming a critical actor in deciding Adelaide's future by making a project that is clearly otherwise commercially unfeasible, feasible.
The ATO is doing this at likely great cost to taxpayers of ~$6m year on year, due to the premium rates.

It's a major scandal that a federal tax-payer funded agency is effectively enabling and assisting in the alienation of our most intensely civic space for exclusive  private business use, thereby allowing damage to the city, its built form, its economy and its heritage by the erection of this parasitic tower which would draw daytime vitality from the CBD amongst other harms. It is our plaza!

The ATO has effectively become a partner of the developer, and also is now, for better or worse, linked to the scandalous administration that is detailed in the  Comprehensive Report on Transparency and Probity, which is linked here.

Could we urge you to write to Senator Katie Gallagher Minister for Finance, to point out what this means for Adelaide, and how the ATO as a government agency must not be involved. You could attach a copy of the report to your email, with the help of Senator Barbara Pocock we are attempting to establish whether she is aware of the serious process issues involved in this development,. and whether the Tax Office has done due diligence.
