The Issue

KING CHARLES, DO NOT give Royal Assent to the decriminalisation of abortion up to birth.

On 18 March 2026, the amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill passed by 185 votes to 148. This decision removes all legal protection for unborn children right up to the moment of birth, leaving our brothers and sisters in the womb without any safeguard. For many, this outcome reveals a Government acting without conscience or mercy toward the most vulnerable.

Yet we still hold hope — hope that His Majesty King Charles III will remain faithful to the promises he made at his coronation. Under solemn oath, King Charles pledged to uphold the true proclamation of the Gospel and to govern with law, justice, and mercy in all his judgments. We now respectfully and urgently appeal to His Majesty to honour those promises. We plead with him to administer mercy by withholding Royal Assent from this Bill, which would completely eradicate essential protection for our unborn children in the womb.

Open letter to King Charles

Your Majesty King Charles,
I write to you with deep concern and a sincere appeal to your conscience and your sworn duties. I ask respectfully: Is your faith strong enough to stand against actions that many believe to be unjust and contrary to the Gospel?
Many of us never imagined that, in our lifetime, we would witness a Government passing legislation that appears to abandon its moral foundation. The recent amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill—passed on 18 March 2026 by 185 votes to 148—removes legal protections for unborn children up to the moment of birth.
This amendment means that a woman may procure her own abortion at any stage of pregnancy without legal consequence.

This represents a profound moral and ethical crisis.
Your Majesty, this Bill cannot become law without your Royal Assent.
You have sworn an oath to uphold the true proclamation of the Gospel, and to govern with justice, mercy, and integrity. These promises were made solemnly before God and the nation.

Scripture teaches: “Thou shalt not murder.” It also teaches that we are given a choice between blessing and curse.

(Deuteronomy 11:26–17:16).

We ask you to choose a blessing for our land by withholding Your Royal assent .
Today, we ask you to show mercy. We implore you not to grant Royal Assent to legislation that would remove all protection from the most vulnerable—children in the womb, right up to the moment of birth.
History will remember the decision made at this moment. We pray that it will remember a King who acted with courage, integrity, and fidelity to the Gospel.

As Head of the Church of England, we appeal to you to uphold the truth of the Gospel and to lead the United Kingdom with moral clarity and bravery. True leadership often requires standing firm when it is most difficult.
Your Majesty, with the stroke of your pen, the legal protection of unborn children could be ended. We ask you, in the name of mercy and justice, not to allow this to happen.
May you place your trust in God, for nothing is impossible with Him.
Yours sincerely,
