Our university experience is defined by more than just lectures and exams; it’s also about the social interactions and community spirit we cultivate outside the classroom. Central to this social landscape is our beloved Redroom, a hub where countless students unwind and connect. Yet, there is a glaring omission that we feel must be addressed: the absence of Great Northern beer.

Great Northern is more than just a beverage. It’s a staple for countless Australians who appreciate its crisp taste and pioneering history. Many of us, familiar with its distinct flavour, find it disappointing to visit our campus bar only to discover our preferred choice is not available. This is not just a matter of availability; it’s about the diversity of options for students and recognising their preferences.

The student union has always represented our interests and prioritised our welfare. Being responsive to student needs includes catering to the diverse tastes and preferences of the student body. Stocking Great Northern beer is a small yet impactful way to enhance the student experience in the Redroom.

According to a 2022 survey conducted by the Beer Association of Australia, Great Northern is one of the top-selling beers in the country, reflecting its wide appeal. Furthermore, a campus survey last year revealed that over 60% of students expressed interest in seeing more beer variety, specifically naming Great Northern as a preferred choice.

By making this simple addition, the student union can demonstrate its commitment to promoting a vibrant and inclusive social scene on campus. Allowing students to enjoy their preferred beverage aligns with this aim, helping to foster a more welcoming atmosphere for everyone who frequents the Redroom.

Join us in urging the student union to stock Great Northern in the Redroom. Sign this petition and make our voices heard. Together, we can bring a little more of what we love onto campus and enhance our university experience for everyone.
