Nevada’s beautiful and well-preserved nature in the Desert National Wildlife Refuge is at risk of being destroyed. Members of Congress have made a dangerous move to repeal protections for Nevada’s desert land which would allow the US Air Force to use it as a testing site for bombs. The National Defense Authorization Act includes measures that would expand military reach over about 468 square miles of Nevada’s land, and this week it passed through the House for approval. This is more than a political or partisan issue, this is a move in clear disregard for the detrimental impact on Nevada’s pure and protected lands. However, there is still time for our law makers to protect Nevadans and our wildlife. Nellis Air Force base is a great part of our community and it deserves the funding required to keep its service members safe, but not for programs that will destroy its own backyard. We want to keep Nevada’s land and wildlife wild and free for generations to come!
