The introduction of the new trains and horns has significantly increased the noise levels through the rail corridor and beyond. These horns are substantially louder than the older trains and are being used more frequently and for longer periods. This is effecting the peace within the areas not only along the rail corridor, but beyond. The noise intensity of the horns needs to be decreased.

Sterling Hinchliffe's office advised me:

NGR’s are fitted with two horns, a high intensity horn for use in country and rural areas set between 114dB to 110dB (this is rarely used within the Brisbane City Council area). A low intensity horn is also fitted for use in town, set between 96dB to 101dB. This sound level must be heard at least 30m away from the klaxon.

We have been advised the klaxon is usually sounded for only one or two seconds, however at night drivers may seek shorter times as a courtesy to nearby residents. To ensure safety on the rail network, drivers are allowed to use the klaxon at any time, and safety codes require the use of the klaxon day and night, for everyday of the week.

From the measurements I have conducted with a calibrated noise meter, the rural horn is being used.
