Steel Horse Safety Act

The Issue

As an avid motorcyclist, I have personally experienced the dangers posed by grass clippings and other debris on the road. It is with great concern for the safety of all motorcyclists that I urge you to support this petition to make blowing all grass trimmings and similar debris into the road illegal.

Grass clippings, especially when freshly cut, are considered as hazardous as gravel, sand, or other substances that can cause a motorcyclist to lose traction. These clippings can create slippery conditions for motorcycle riders, akin to hitting winter ice on road surfaces. In fact, some have even compared riding over freshly cut grass on the road to hitting an oil slick.

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety reports that road debris causes 25,000 accidents annually in North America for all motorists. However, due to the lack of safety protections on motorcycles compared to larger vehicles, bikers are more susceptible to severe injuries when they crash. Poor road conditions such as potholes, debris accumulation, and wet or slippery roads further contribute to motorcycle accidents.

Motorcycle riders face unique challenges while navigating roads shared with larger vehicles. The absence of seat belts or airbags leaves them vulnerable in case of a collision or loss of control caused by hazardous road conditions like grass clippings strewn across their path.

By making it illegal for individuals and landscaping companies alike from blowing grass trimmings onto roads and public spaces frequented by motorcycles and other vulnerable users, we can significantly reduce the number of accidents caused by this preventable hazard.

This petition aims not only at raising awareness about this issue but also at urging local authorities and lawmakers across North America to take immediate action in implementing stricter regulations against blowing grass trimmings onto roads. By doing so:

1) We can protect motorcyclists from unnecessary risks and injuries caused by slippery road conditions.

2) We can reduce the number of accidents and fatalities resulting from motorcycle crashes due to grass clippings on roads.

3) We can create safer road environments for all motorists, including motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

Together, we can make a difference in ensuring the safety of motorcyclists by eliminating this preventable hazard. Sign this petition today to support the ban on blowing grass trimmings onto roads and help save lives.

Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.

Sincerely,

A son, brother, uncle, husband, and father.
