Status and Scope of BNYS Under AYUSH
Status and Scope of BNYS Under AYUSH
The Issue
We, the undersigned students and practitioners of Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences (BNYS), respectfully seek formal clarification regarding the regulatory status and recruitment position of BNYS within the framework of the Ministry of AYUSH. Recent representations at the state level concerning the eligibility of BNYS graduates for recruitment in certain AYUSH-related public health programs have created uncertainty among students, practitioners, and stakeholders. In this context, we request transparent and authoritative clarification to ensure consistency in policy interpretation and public communication.
BNYS is offered through established university programs in multiple states of India, with structured academic curricula that include foundational biomedical sciences along with training in naturopathy, yoga, and lifestyle-based health approaches. Graduates of BNYS programs have been engaged in various wellness and preventive health initiatives, particularly in areas related to lifestyle modification and health promotion. However, differences in interpretation across states regarding recruitment norms and regulatory positioning have led to confusion about the formal classification and scope of practice associated with the degree.
We respectfully request that the Ministry of AYUSH issue a clear statement outlining the statutory status of BNYS, its scope within the broader AYUSH ecosystem, and its eligibility criteria in government-supported health schemes. Uniform guidance across states would help prevent inconsistent administrative decisions and reduce ambiguity for students currently enrolled in these programs. Clear regulatory positioning would also strengthen accountability in education and practice, protect students from uncertainty regarding their professional standing, and support structured integration of preventive and lifestyle-oriented health approaches within public health frameworks.
Our intent is not to contest or challenge other recognized systems of medicine, but to seek clarity and stability within the existing regulatory structure. Transparent guidance from the appropriate authority will ensure that BNYS functions within a clearly defined and accountable framework in the interest of students, institutions, administrators, and public health governance.
