Stop Crossbow Hunting - Remove Section I (letter i) from Governor Cuomo's Budget Plan

Governer Cuomo's new budget plan includes details about legalizing crossbow hunting in New York State, it will also allow hunters to hunt closer to our homes than ever before, this will have dangerous affects on our wildlife and the safety of our communities.

Crossbows require much less skill and experience than longbows, they are especially attractive to inexperienced hunters, including children. Hunting with a crossbow is currently illegal in New York but under this proposed law children as young as 12 years old will be allowed to hunt Deer and Bears.

Among longbow hunters the crippling rate is 50% (animals hit but never recovered) and with inexperienced children using crossbows, that rate is likely to rise sharply. Inexperienced hunters are also more apt to harm companion animals and people. In Ohio where killing with crossbows is legal, a father shot his 14 year old son in the chest, killing him.

We urge all New Yorkers to contact their legislators, including those listed above, and demand that Governer Cuomo deletes Section I (letter i) from his bill, to stop bowhunting in New York State.
