Rhode Island Department of Transportation & Public Transit Authority should look into having a contract with Interstate Navigation to take over the Providence-Newport Ferry as part of my suggested Narragansett Bay Commuter Ferry, since it is the oldest ferry company in Rhode Island. The Narragansett Bay Commuter Ferry will be a separate service from Interstate Navigation's Block Island Ferry Service. In addition, The State of Rhode Island, including the Department of Transportation & Public Transit Authority along with Interstate Navigation should acquire the MV Ocean State as part of my suggested Narragansett Bay Commuter Ferry fleet, which would also include High-speed catamaran ferry MV Nelesco III, MV Quonset II & Spring Carol II, which would be similar to the MV Ocean State. Plus, with Interstate Navigation operating the Providence-Newport Ferry, this would allow for seasonal service between Newport-Point Judith. During the off season, the MV Athena & MV Islander can operate as back up ferryboats, when the boats are not going to Block Island.
