The state of Florida wants to allow swimming in the head springs of Silver River for 3 months out of the year, Tourist season, at a taxpayer cost of maybe $750,000.00. The maximum capacity is 80 people. It appears the state is trying to placate the swimmers and the environmentalists.

The financial costs are irretrievable. But more importantly are the devastating effects to our environment. Swimming in the head springs will damage down stream caverns, springs, and vegetation because of the silt.  This is made perfectly clear in the management plan. And the term crystal clear will be no more.

If we can successfully petition and stop this decision, we have another location planned, down from the headsprings more appropriate for swimming YEAR ROUND.

If you have ever spent an hour on this river you know the importance of it, the wildlife, the peacefulness, the tranquility. The only spring fed river, not developed.
