STATE & FEDERAL PRISON CRIMES: END MASS & WRONGFUL INCARCERATIONS

STATE & FEDERAL PRISON CRIMES: END MASS & WRONGFUL INCARCERATIONS
The Issue
Prison and jail populations have exploded by 400% to 500% over the past 50 years. 65% of Illinois State prison populations are comprised of Black men and youth, with the remainder being Latinx, Caucasian, and others. 80% of Black families have no man in the home, contributing to accelerated crime (i.e., carjackings and robberies). No one, nowhere is safe, including women and seniors who previously were deemed off-limits. All of the trauma can come to a halt by implementing the 26 proposed legislative changes instituted by Illinois politicians. What is required?
30,000 signatures by Illinois citizens demanding the changes, and the urgency cannot be overstated. So, we must collect the signatures, we must get the proposed legislative changes to the Illinois General Assembly, we must garner sponsors in both the House and the Senate, we must get the 26 proposed legislative changes shepherded through the committees and passed by both chambers of the Illinois Assembly, and, finally, we must get the passed legislation on Governor Pritzker's Desk and signed by him. It is the ultimate goal of the Harriet Tubman Initiative.
Harriet Tubman Initiative is aware of thousands of individuals locked up for 15-25-45-65 and 100 years, sentences that are excessive, dispassionate, and have contributed enormously to mass incarceration. The so-called "tough on crime" mantra has been tough on thousands of families by causing financial burdens, ill health and death among family members, and an increased rate of suicide. Such mayhem cries for compassionate prosecutors and judges who believe in the humanity of everyone, not just a privileged few. WE WANT REAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE!
