Start a Community Food Garden!

Start a Community Food Garden!
The Issue
Dear Mme. Valerie Plante,
Who is affected?
The topic of climate change should be urgently discussed. There is a 22% chance that 2024 will be the warmest year in NOAA's 175-year record, and it will only get worse. (Global Climate Summary for January 2024 | NOAA Climate.gov, n.d.). This affects everyone in the world, not just one area. The earth is being made hotter and hotter each year by human activity, causing plants and animals to die out.
Why should I sign?
Right now because of climate change, there is more methane being put out onto earth. This affects the earth's vegetation, melts cold areas, etc. Also by transporting fruits and vegetables it causes extra pollution with the planes, trucks, etc. By creating a community garden locally, you are reducing all of this. The plants require more photosynthesis that aids with the CO in the air. As well as reducing the use of fuel during transport by having it in your area.
Community gardens also help improve air and soil quality, increase biodiversity of plants and animals, reduce neighborhood waste through composting, improve food security, increase fruit and vegetable intake and improve mental health.
We, the undersigned students of John Abbott College, call upon you to help create a garden locally. It is very important to act now and help as much as possible even in the slightest way. A little goes a long way.
