It’s time for largest retail plastic sellers to begin using plastic alternatives

The Issue

Everyday plastic products burden our sanitation systems, infiltrate our waterways and pollute our oceans. With the advent of science and technology, viable plastic alternative options are available for consumer use that are biodegradable and safe for the environment. For example, a Balinese-based company named Avani provides plastic alternatives for cups, plates, lids, bowls and cutlery marketed with the hashtag #iamnotplastic.

Starbucks is one of the worlds largest coffee producers and also one of the largest consumers of plastic consumer-used goods like cups and straws. It therefore has a unique opportunity to lead the world and retailers all across the globe in reducing plastic waste and saving out planet.

We demand that Starbucks begin to use plastic alternatives and eventually phase out all plastic products by 2022.
