Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy just made it clear: the U.S. must get tougher on Vladimir Putin — now.

In a recent interview, Zelenskyy urged President Donald Trump to apply even more pressure on Russia, warning that the war in Ukraine is escalating again as Russian forces target civilian infrastructure and energy systems ahead of winter. He called Putin a “terrorist” and said that only firm action — not vague diplomacy — will bring just and lasting peace.

While Trump has successfully helped broker a ceasefire in Gaza, he has been far more cautious with Putin — delaying weapons decisions, downplaying escalation, and planning another summit in Budapest with the Russian leader. Zelenskyy says he’s ready to join that summit. But so far, the U.S. has withheld critical tools like long-range Tomahawk missiles.

We must not send mixed signals when authoritarian regimes attack sovereign nations.

We call on President Donald Trump and U.S. leaders to:

• Immediately provide Ukraine with advanced defense capabilities, including long-range Tomahawk missiles;
• Publicly commit to Ukraine’s territorial integrity — no forced land concessions to Russia;
• Invite President Zelenskyy to participate in any upcoming peace negotiations involving Russia;
• Condition future diplomatic talks on a verified halt to Russian attacks on civilians and infrastructure.

Nearly 20% of Ukraine remains under Russian occupation. Millions have been displaced. Thousands are dead. And every day that passes without decisive action risks turning this war into a frozen conflict — or worse, a permanent occupation.
