PETITION TO SUPPORT THE EDMONTON OILERS’ DECISION TO SIGN ALEX FORMENTON

We, the undersigned, support the Edmonton Oilers’ decision to give Alex Formenton the opportunity to continue his professional hockey career.

Alex Formenton was charged, along with four other former Canadian world junior hockey players, in connection with an alleged sexual assault. The case went through the Canadian justice system, and in 2025 all five men were found not guilty.

The allegations were serious, and sexual assault must always be taken seriously. Supporting Alex Formenton’s opportunity to return to professional hockey does not mean dismissing sexual assault or criticizing those who have concerns about his signing.

At the same time, we believe the outcome of our justice system matters.

When someone has faced criminal charges, gone through a trial and been acquitted, there must be a path forward. A person should have the opportunity to work, rebuild his life and demonstrate through his future actions who he chooses to be.

The Edmonton Oilers made the decision to give Alex Formenton an opportunity to return to the NHL knowing that the decision would generate strong opinions.

Some fans disagree with that decision. Others support it.

Our voices deserve to be heard too.

This petition represents those who believe Alex Formenton should be given the opportunity to move forward.

We ask the Edmonton Oilers to stand by their decision and allow Alex Formenton to play.

Let him earn his place on the team through his conduct, his commitment to his teammates and his performance on the ice.
