Stand With Survivors: Demand a Thorough Investigation Into the 2024 Cornell Sexual Assault
The Issue
We are coming together in support of survivors of sexual violence and in support of a fair, thorough, and impartial legal process.
Recent developments surrounding allegations arising from a 2024 incident involving Cornell University students have brought renewed public attention to questions about the investigation and institutional response. The Tompkins County District Attorney’s Office has announced that the criminal investigation has been reopened and that the matter is expected to be presented to a grand jury.
We believe allegations of sexual violence deserve to be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly.
We are not asking the public to determine guilt or innocence. That responsibility belongs to the legal system. We are asking that the evidence be fully examined, that relevant evidence be preserved, that appropriate authorities have the opportunity to conduct their work without interference, and that accountability be pursued wherever the evidence and law require it.
We are asking for:
A complete and impartial investigation of the allegations.
Preservation and examination of relevant evidence and communications.
Appropriate cooperation between Cornell University, law enforcement, prosecutors, and other relevant authorities.
Protection and support for survivors throughout the investigative and legal process.
Appropriate accountability if criminal or institutional wrongdoing is established through the proper process.
Continued attention to sexual-violence prevention, reporting, and survivor support on college campuses.
This petition is not a call for harassment, threats, doxxing, retaliation, or vigilantism against anyone involved.
It is a call for the opposite:
A thorough investigation.
A fair legal process.
Respect for survivors.
Protection of evidence.
And accountability when the facts and law support it.
We believe the community can stand beside a survivor while also respecting the integrity of the legal process.
