Stand with Alondra Garcia! Solidarity with Milwaukee Teachers Organizing Against Detentions and Deportations of Immigrant students, school workers and their families!

All Alondra Garcia did was what the school administrators should have done in the first place - providing information about legal services available to families potentially facing deportation. All MPS schools are supposed to be covered by the Safe Haven program to do all possible to protect students and families from ICE raids but implementation of an already insufficient program has been very weak! Trump’s 2nd Term clearly represents an escalated threat environment.  And yet principal Blandon at Allen-Field School has gone beyond placing an unjustified statement in Ms. Garcia’s file, towards a 1 day unpaid suspension scheduled for 1/29, charging that she sent a “political” message. The 2nd charge supposedly leading to this escalation is her asking for voluntary donations from parents for our unhoused neighbors! She is clearly being targeted for being an activist standing up for her students, their families and the wider community. There is nothing about school life that isn’t political!  An Injury to One is an Injury to All! MTEA (Milwaukee Teachers Education Association) and all Milwaukee Labor must stand against these attacks. If one principal can get away with this, it will set a very bad precedent and lead to further political persecution against other MPS staff.   

We demand:

• Withdraw the 1-day, unpaid suspension scheduled for 1/29 and remove the disciplinary statements from Ms. Garcia’s File
• WE demand BACKPAY for Ms. Garcia if the suspension goes through!
  
• Our schools become bastions of opposition to Trump's plans for immigrant detentions and deportations! School Admin needs to do much more than the bare minimum. We need a real Safe Haven campaign that involves teachers, students, and families and gives legal support to those brought up on immigration-related charges
• For emergency defense networks organized by the MTEA that can respond to raids in our schools & community with mass direct action
