Stand with Afghan Women: Demand Their Rights and Freedom

Stand with Afghan Women: Demand Their Rights and Freedom
The Issue
We, the undersigned, call on the international community to take immediate action to protect and uphold the rights of Afghan women and girls under the Taliban regime.
Since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, we have witnessed a devastating rollback of women’s rights and freedoms that have been hard-won over the past two decades. Afghan women are now facing:
• Denial of Education: Millions of girls are being denied the right to attend school, effectively robbing them of their future and the opportunity to contribute to their society.
• Exclusion from Public Life: Women are prohibited from participating in public life, forced to wear the burqa, and barred from working in various sectors, including healthcare and education. This exclusion not only limits their personal freedom but also deprives society of their invaluable contributions.
• Healthcare Crisis: The dismissal of female healthcare workers and the restrictions on women’s mobility have created a healthcare crisis, particularly impacting maternal health. Women are unable to access the medical care they desperately need.
• Violence and Oppression: Reports of violence, harassment, and intimidation against women are escalating. Afghan women are living in fear, unsure of their safety as their rights are systematically stripped away.
We cannot remain silent while Afghan women suffer.
Therefore, we demand that the international community:
1. Hold the Taliban accountable for their human rights violations against women and girls.
2. Support initiatives that provide education, healthcare, and vocational training for Afghan women, empowering them to rebuild their lives and communities.
3. Amplify the voices of Afghan women in international discussions and decisions, ensuring they are included in any negotiations regarding Afghanistan’s future.
4. Increase humanitarian aid targeted specifically at supporting women and girls in Afghanistan, addressing their immediate needs and long-term development.
Together, we can make a difference. Join us in standing in solidarity with Afghan women and demanding their rights and freedom.
